'New Beginnings'

Updated: Feb 25, 2023

Nike AIR JORDAN “NEW BEGINNINGS” This release right here has to be one of the most iconic sneaker releases to date.

At the time of its original release date it would be bizarre to think both pairs of sneakers would have a MAJOR role in sneaker culture.

The 'New Beginnings' pack contains two Creps, The 1984 Nike Air Ship PE (left) & The 1985 Air Jordan 1 (right) in its original high-top form.

Everything about the release is wavy, from the box the Creps are packaged in down to the history of the actual sneakers and what it means to the O.G sneakerheads.

Let’s go back in time quickly…. 1984 the Nike Air ship. The first shoe MJ stepped in (this was before Air Jordan even been invented) as a 21 year old rookie the whole of Chicago hoping they found their savior.

Sneaker designer Peter More then shook the world when he turned the conservative design of the red/white Air Ship into what would be history in the making with the black/red colourway causing A LOT of controversy at the time.

As we know now it's THE iconic colourway for the Air Jordan brand, but In 1984 the NBA was having none of it. Unlike now basketball shoes back then were really reserved, mainly white with a hint of colour to match a teams jersey.

So when Nike + MJ stormed into the league with these, The NBA were far from impressed.

They went as far as issuing fines of $5,000 anytime MJ stepped on the court wearing them as it violated the 51% Percent Rule.

Shoes had to be 51% percent white and in accordance with what the rest of the team was wearing. The rule was finally lifted in the late 2000s

With all eyes on Michael Jordan & a lot of controversy surrounding Nike, they only went and created the Air Jordan 1.

Released in 1985 with their OG colourway.

The Air Ship's might not catch your attention as a must cop however I believe Nike released these for the OG'S to reminisce on. While the younger generation can see the foundations and put further respect on the Air Jordan legacy.

The colourway of the AIR JORDAN 1’s is definitely unique, resembling the colours of the CHI red and white with the red swoosh and the traditional black wings logo.

The AIR SHIP contains the red swoosh but differs slightly in that the whole Crep is white with a dab of red by the ankles with the NIKE AIR writing at the heel.

The packaging is probably the best feature to be honest for me and it also contains a booklet breaking down the history of the two trainers and the impact they've had on the sneaker culture.

You learn something new everyday right?

As always my people,

Stay safe, Keep it Locked with Creps On Demand & See you on the next blog ✌️
